Philip is an experienced legal practitioner, mediator and arbitrator with thirty-eight years of continuous post admission legal experience.

Philip has extensive experience in mediations, undertaking more than 400 mediations since being accredited as a mediator by the Victorian Bar Association, in both private and government mediations. Clients have included large insurers operating in Australia (including Law Cover and Suncorp Ltd), the NSW Government, the Northern Territory Government and the NSW Health Department.

Philip believes all disputes, regardless of their factual matrix or complexity, are capable of sensible resolution through the collaborative process of mediation and negotiation outside of the traditional litigious mechanisms available to disputing parties. Philip subscribes to the RAAF motto: “Through adversity to the stars”.

Philip obtained his mediation certification from the Victorian Bar Association in 2013 and has national accreditation through the NSW Bar Association. He has conducted in excess of 400 mediations in a variety of jurisdictions and disputes involving claims in professional negligence (hospitals, nurses, medical practitioners, engineers, architects, project managers, insurance brokers and solicitors), property damage, fraud, consumer (ACL), common law and various statutory classes (MAC and Workers compensation).

Philip has previously been a court appointed mediator for the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW (2000 – 2004) and the Federal Court of Australia (native title jurisdiction) (2010 – May 2013). He has also previously conducted mediations in a broad range of civil disputes as both a solicitor and as counsel.

Philip has an extensive background in alternative dispute resolution having been an early neutral evaluator (Supreme Court ENE 2000 – 2004), expert determiner (NSW Bar Association 2012 – to date) and court appointed arbitrator (Supreme Court [2000 – 2004 and 2013 to date] and District Court [2000 – 2004 and 2013 – to date]) and a facilitator for the Commonwealth Defence Force Ombudsman (2017 to date).

Philip is also currently a mediator of the Personal Injury Commission in New South Wales, the District and the Supreme Courts.
